Griffin Becomes Football's 19th 2013 Signee
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Derrick Griffin, one of the nation’s top prep receivers, became the Miami Hurricanes’ 19th signee for the Class of 2013, signing a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Miami.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound receiver from Terry High School in Rosenberg, Texas, is rated the nation’s top tight end by ESPN and No. 3 by Rivals.com. He’s also listed as the No. 7 receiver by Scout.com and 247Sports.com. A 4-star prospect by every major recruiting service, Griffin is ranked No. 33 in the ESPN 150, No. 43 by Rivals.com, No. 44 by Scout.com and No. 86 by 247Sports.com.
As a junior in 2011, Griffin caught 36 passes for 509 yards and 12 touchdowns, while averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds on the basketball court. As a sophomore in 2010, he hauled in 28 catches for 500 yards and eight TDs.
Also a 4-star basketball recruit, Griffin is rated the No. 26 small forward by ESPN, No. 74 nationally by Scout.com and No. 81 nationally by Rivals.com.
Miami’s 2013 signing class is ranked No. 11 in 247Sports.com‘s composite rankings – a jump of seven spots since National Signing Day – and No. 21 by ESPN. Miami’s talent-laden class features 16 freshmen and three juniors from 12 different states.
The Canes will kick off their spring practice schedule Sat., March 2 at the GreenTree Practice Fields.
