@CanesBaseball Climbs to No. 20 in Polls
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — After a three-game sweep of Rutgers to open their season,the Miami Hurricanes rose eight spots to No. 20 in the first Collegiate Baseball poll of the 2013 regular seasonreleased Monday.
The Hurricanes, rankedNo. 28 in the publication’s preseasonpoll, outscored the visiting Scarlet Knights 16-5 over the weekend. Despiteadverse weather conditions and still missing two top arms due to injuries, theHurricane starters allowed zero earned runs in 17 combined innings of work.
Nine Hurricanesrookies made their debuts over the course of the weekend, and a number of themdelivered key performances to help Miami open its season with a sweep. DavidThompson (five RBI’s), Alex Hernandez (three hits), Brandon Lopez (three hits)and Thomas Woodrey (one save), all part of a recruiting class ranked ninth-bestin the nation by Collegiate Baseball,helped guide Miami to a perfect weekend.

The Hurricanes returnto the diamond Wednesday, when they travel to FAU for a midweek matchup withthe Owls. First pitch from FAU Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
