How did youbecome a Hurricanes fan?
“Growing upin Miami, I was surrounded by the greatness that was the University of Miami. Itwas hard not to be a fan. It was great having the team back home when the BankUnitedCenter, or the UM Convocation Center as it was called when it first opened, wasbuilt on campus. It offered a great place to get together to watch the Canesplay.”
Do you findit difficult supporting Miami while living in North Carolina?
“Not atall. North Carolina is in the heart of ACC country and there are always”home” games nearby for North Carolina residents to attend. HavingDuke, UNC and NC State within a 20 min drive gives me three options to see theCanes in action. The other ACC rivals aren’t too far away either.”
Is there aplace you visit to watch Hurricanes games in the city?
“If I can’tmake it to the game in person, I’ll usually head over to a fellow Cane’s houseor have them over. The Alumni Association also organizes watch parties in thearea.”
Have youfound any other Hurricanes fans in North Carolina?
“There areplenty of Miami transplants throughout this great city. Whether it’s for work, grad school or a new setting, you can see plenty of orange and green duringbasketball and football season here.”
How do yousupport the Hurricanes – Any apartment decorations? Do you have a favoritepiece of Canes gear? Travel for games?
“Aside fromthe orange and green bathroom paint and UM windows decal on my car, my officesports a UM banner plastered on the wall directly across from my officemates VirginiaTech banner. I can’t forget to mention my UM bowtie from the Alumni office thatI wear every chance I get.”
Anyfavorite memories or stories from your time as a Hurricanes basketball fan?
“I havemany great memories from my time in Miami but one of the greatest basketball memorieswas watching the Canes defeat NC State at the PNC Arena in the last minute. Itwas a great game and we walked away still undefeated in the ACC.”
