MBB Ranked No. 25 in AP Poll, RV in USA TODAY

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – With a 13-3 overall record and a 4-0mark in the ACC, the No. 25 University of Miami men’s basketball team is rankedin the AP Poll for the first time since Jan. 11, 2010, when the Canes were No.23.

Miami is also receiving votes (49) in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Miami, which received 93 points in the AP poll, faces No.1 Duke on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at the BankUnited Center. The game willbe televised on ESPN with Dick Vitale, Dan Shulman and Jeannine Edwards on thecall.

Miami has never defeated a No. 1 opponent and coincidentally, the last time UM beat a top-5 team was Feb. 5, 2012, when the Canes downed No. 7/5 Duke 78-74 in overtimein Cameron indoor Stadium.

Miami is 0-6 all-time against No. 1 teams, and 0-0 underCoach Jim Larranaga. Coach L has not defeated a No. 1 team, but did defeat No.1 seed UConn in 2006 in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.

The Canes are 4-35 against top-5 teams, and 1-2 in theCoach L era. Three of Miami’s four wins over Top 5 teams are against Duke; thefourth is UConn.

Miami was listed on both the AP and USA TODAY preseason polls for the first time since the 2008-09 season, when UM was ranked Nos. 17 and 16, respectively. In 2005-06, Miami was receiving votes in both preseason polls, with 16 from the AP and six in the USA TODAY listing.
