S&D Set for Tri-Meet in Blacksburg
BLACKSBURG, Va. — The University of Miami swimming & diving team will travel to the Christiansburg Aquatic Center for a tri-meet with William & Mary and hosts Virginia Tech Saturday. Action from the complex is set to begin at 11 a.m.
Saturday’s meet will represent the Hurricanes’ last regular season contest before the team starts final training for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Competition from the Greensboro Aquatic Center will begin Wed., Feb. 20 and end Sun., Feb. 23.
Last time out, the Miami swimmers suffered a disappointing loss to the Harvard Crimson on Senior Day at the Norman A. Whitten University Center Pool. Despite the end result, strong performances from senior Sofia Johansson in the 100 Breaststroke, sophomore Lucy Worrall in the butterfly and freshman My Fridell in both freestyle events provided promise heading into the team’s tri-meet in Blacksburg.
Coming off a strong showing at the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles, the team’s divers figure to continue momentum as they prepare for the final stretch of their individual seasons. Senior Carrie Dragland captured second place in the 1-meter diving event at the Spieker Aquatics Center, while sophomore Kara McCormack took fourth in the 3-meter.
After taking down Howard University 215-44 in its most recent dual meet, William & Mary is carrying a two-match winning streak into Saturday’s competition. Host Virginia Tech is looking to get back in the win column after dropping a conference meet with NC State by a slim 160-140 margin in Raleigh on Wednesday.
