Dragland, Lester Shine on Day Two
LOS ANGELES — Carrie Dragland and Lindsay Lester rebounded with strong performances at the Bruin Diving Invitational Saturday, each ranking among the top performers in the one-meter event.
Lester took second place, while Dragland took fourth. Lester, who finished the preliminary round in third place with a score of 267.60, shined in the final rounds to capture second place with a total of 549.20. Dragland was nearly as impressive, finishing with a 256.10 in the prelims and 522.25 by event’s end.
After sophomore Kara McCormack impressed in Friday’s three-meter event, Dragland and Lester were the only pair of teammates to rank in the top five on Saturday.
A day after finishing seventh in the one-meter event, freshman Tanner Wilfong continued his strong run at the Spieker Aquatics Center Saturday as the lone men’s entrant for the Hurricanes. Wilfong took sixth in the three-meter event, finishing with a prelim score of 314.30 and a final score of 615.50.
Miami is one of 17 teams competing in the event, joined by: hosts UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, California, Fresno State, Kansas, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Stanford, Tulane, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, USC and Wisconsin.
Miami will wrap up its trip to Los Angeles on Sunday with the platform diving events. The women’s platform competition commences at 9:30 a.m. with the prelims. After the field is cut to 12, the final will start at 11:30 a.m. The men’s platform starts at 12:30 p.m., with the 12-person final beginning at 1:55 p.m.
