Hollins Earns ACC Co-Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior outside hitter Taylor Hollins of the nationally-ranked University of Miami volleyball team has beennamed Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league officeannounced Monday. She becomes the fourth different Hurricane to earn the honorthis season.

“It’sexciting to have our fourth player honored by the conference and it just showshow balanced we are and that our contributions are coming from all over thecourt,” head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “Taylor had an exceptionalweekend – she’s been taking really great swings on the outside, particularly inthe last couple of weeks that has helped us with our continued success. Shehas such a great all-around game with her passing, defense and attacking.”

Hollins,a native of Long Beach, Calif., averaged 4.14 kills per set (25 overall) on anefficient .548 hitting percentage to help Miami pick up two home sweeps overthe weekend. She committed just two errors in 42 attempts as an outside hitterand collected 16 digs.

Thejunior nearly had a double-double in three sets against Virginia Tech on Fridaywith 14 kills and nine digs. Three of her kills against the Hokies fended offset point, with UM eventually coming back to win the set. Against Virginia, shehad 11 kills in 17 attempts with no errors for a career-high .647 match hittingpercentage.

Forthe season, Hollins, who played in the back row as an underclassman, leads theCanes and is eighth in the ACC with 274 kills (3.22/set). She also has ateam-high 15 double-doubles.

Hollinsjoins sophomore Emani Sims (Oct. 1, Oct. 22), sophomore Alexis Mourning (Oct.8) and junior Alex Johnson (Sept. 10) as Hurricanes to win ACC Player of theWeek this year. Miami has had a player recognized by the league in four of thelast five weeks.

Thejunior shares this week’s honor with Sareea Freeman of Florida State, the team theCanes are tied with in the league standings. North Carolina’s Paige Neuenfeldtwon ACC Freshman of the Week.

Miami(20-3, 12-1) is currently on a 10-match winning streak, No. 23 in the ACVACoaches Poll and No. 16 in the NCAA RPI. The team will next play at NorthCarolina on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
