Antrel Rolle Named NFC Player of the Week
NEW YORK — For his six-tackle, two-interception performance in the New York Giants’ 26-3 win over San Francisco, Antrel Rolle was selected NFC Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday.
Alongside Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers (offensive) and Detroit Lions’ kicker Jason Hanson (special teams), Rolle was recognized for the first time this season. He has been selected NFC Defensive Player of the Week on three previous occasions, all during his five seasons spent with the Arizona Cardinals.
Rolle was part of a defensive unit that intercepted 49ers quarterback Alex Smith three times; Smith threw five INTs all of last season. The Giants also ended Smith’s franchise-record streak of 26 starts without a multi-INT game.
Now in his eighth professional season and third year with the Giants, Rolle leads the team with 35 tackles and ranks second with two picks.
