Miami Women's Golf Preps for Starmount

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After two-week hiatus, the University of Miami women’s golf team returns to the course Oct. 1-2 for the Starmount Forest Tournament at the Starmount Forest Country Club.

The par-71, 6,265-yard Starmount Forest Country Club course will host the two-day tournament with 36-holes on Monday beginning with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start and the final 18 holes Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The 16 participating teams include host UNCG, Maryland, Campbell, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, Richmond, James Madison, Eastern Kentucky, Winthrop, Jacksonville, Morehead State, Elon and High Point.

“The team practiced really well this week,” assistant coach John Koskinen said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the team’s results. I believe once the freshmen start believing in what we want them to, they’ll start improving much faster.”

This weekend marks the Canes’ first trip back to the Starmount since placing 12th in the 2010 edition. UM’s Maria Ronderos finished in the top 15 at 5-over 149 that year.

“I’m excited to see how all this hard work is finally going to pay off this week,” sophomore Leticia Ras-Anderica said. “We have a great opportunity to compete with some good teams and move up some spots in our ranking.”

Through two tournaments, the Hurricanes are ranked No. 65 overall by Golfstat.com, which released its first rankings of the 2012-13 season Wednesday.

Live scoring for all three rounds will be provided by Golfstat and available on www.HurricaneSports.com.
