XC Continues Season at Paul Short Run

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- The University of Miami cross country teams are now midway through the 2012season. This weekend the Hurricanes will travel to Lehigh, Pa., to compete inthe Paul Short Run on Fridayat Lehigh University.

“This is going to be the biggest test forthe team this season,” assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths said. “Thismeet presents a challenging field and course that should prepare us for thetype of race we expect at the ACC meet next month.”

The Hurricanes look to improve on theirperformance from their last meet at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational. JuniorSean Pezzulo placed 11th with a time of 25:14.00 in the 8k to lead the men. Itwas a personal best, as well as the sixth-best time in school history. As ateam, Miami finished ninth at the meet. Along with Pezzulo, junior LukeFontaine, freshman Bert Irigoyen, junior JaCee Jarnagin, senior Greg Kaczka,freshman Kevin Marsh and sophomore AJ Ricketts will compete in the 8k tomorrow.

On the women’s side, junior LindsiArrington looks to continue her strong season. Recording a personal best of18:13.10 at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational, she finished 13th overall andregistered the fourth-best time in school history. The Canes placed 11thas a team. Along with Arrington, junior Brooke Dovell, senior Jennifer Estime,sophomore Julia Koch, senior Allison Ludwick, sophomore Sara Ryan, juniorAlaine Tate and freshman Kelly Williamson will run in the 5k for theHurricanes.

“I’m looking for our three to seven runnersto show improvement,” Griffiths continued. “This will be key to have a solidteam performance.”

The Paul Short Run will be hosted atLehigh University with 120 women’s teams over three groups and 82 men’s teamsover two groups. The college races start at 11 and 11:45 a.m.
