S&D Opens Season With All-Florida Invite
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Miami swimming and diving team opens its 2012-13 campaign Friday at the third annualAll-Florida Invitational.
“I’m excited to start the season with All-Florida,” head swimming coach Christie Shefchunas said. “It’s a three-day invite that willfeature great competition from the very start.”
The tournament, hosted by the University of Florida at theStephen C. O’Connell Center, will feature many of the premier teamsfrom the Sunshine State. Included in the group are Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast,Florida State, North Florida, Nova Southeastern, Rollins College and the host FloridaGators. The Hurricanes are one of five teams competing in the event for the thirdstraight year.
The three-day meet begins Fri., Sept. 28, with preliminaryrounds set for 10 a.m. and finals set for 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday prelimsbegin at 9:00 a.m., while finals are set for 4 p.m. both days.
In last year’s All-Florida Invite, the Hurricanes finishedin fourth place. Miami enjoyed six top-10 finishes on the final day of themeet, and its 467 points trailed only Florida, Florida State and FGCU.
“The tournament is going to test us, there’s no doubtabout that,” Shefchunas said. “We’re excited to get everything started.”
