Miami Runs at Mountain Dew Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Juniors Sean Pezzulo and LindsiArrington led the way for the University of Miami cross country teams as theycontinued their success on Saturday at the University of Florida Mountain DewInvitational. The men’s team placed ninth out of 17 teams, while the women were11th out of 18 squads.
“Seanand Lindsi ran great races today with personal-best times,” assistant crosscountry coach Damon Griffiths said. “We need to continue to work on having acloser spread between our other runners. We have time to improve on our mentaland physical fitness.”
Pezzuloplaced 11th with a time of 25:14.00 in the 8k. It was a personal best, as wellas the sixth-best time in school history. Following Pezzulo in the top-50 forthe Hurricanes was junior Jacee Jarnigen, with a time of 26:54.16. Freshman BertIrigoyen (27:16.40), junior Luke Fontaine (27:47.83), Kevin Marsh (27:50.01)and sophomore AJ Ricketts (28:05.48) also contributed for the Canes.
“It’s agood feeling to have everything come together after the setbacks I have had,”Pezzulo said. “As a team we have to continue to get focused and keep moving towardour high-set goals. We have long way to go.”
For thewomen, Arrington ran a personal best of 18:13.10, finishing 13th overall. Arrington’stime was the fourth-best time in school history.
“My planfor today’s race was to run hard and be a motivation to my team,” Arringtonsaid. “My focus is on getting back to training to prepare for the ACC schedule.”
Also onthe 5k course for Miami was junior Alaine Tate (19:15.09), junior Brooke Dovell(20:18.77), senior Jennifer Estime (21:14.90), sophomore Julia Koch (21:15.86),sophomore Sara Ryan (22:37.63) and freshman Kelly Williamson (23:09.42).
Next up,members of the Hurricanes will travel to Lehigh, Pa., to compete in thee PaulShort Run on Friday, Sept. 28.
