WG Preps for Mary Fossum Invitational
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Miami women’s golf team will head north for the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State on Sept. 15-16.The two-day event will be held at the par-72, 6,236-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course.
The 54-hole tournament will begin with 36 holes and a 9 a.m. EDT shotgun start Saturday and the final 18 holes Sunday at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Miami is joined in the 16-team field by Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oakland, Purdue, Texas State, Toledo, ULM, Western Michigan and Wisconsin. Live scoring for all three rounds will be provided by Golfstat and available on www.HurricaneSports.com.
Miami’s lineup will feature sophomores Rika Park, Leticia Ras-Anderica and freshmen Christina Ocampo, Laura Hendee and Lauren Riehle. In their season opener at the Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C., the Hurricanes tied for 19th, while Ras-Anderica tied for 36th at 4-over 220.
“We know we have a lot of talent on this team,” third-year head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Our goal is to get them better every week.
“Leticia and Rika are right where they should be and me and [assistant coach] John Koskinen are going to focus more on the freshmen.”
