Miami Falls to No. 9 UCF in Overtime

ORLANDO – In a back-and-forth affair at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex, the No. 9 Knights utilized a 95th-minute goal to earn a 1-0 overtime victory over visiting Miami. 

The Hurricanes (2-2-0), who tallied four goals in Friday night’s rain-shortened victory over Morehead State at Cobb Stadium, came up empty despite recording 12 shots in the contest. Unfortunately for head coach Tom Anagnost and staff, only one of those – a first-half shot from freshman Jasmine Paterson – made its way on target through 95 minutes of play.

“We are all really disappointed in the loss,” Anagnost said. “We didn’t do enough technically or tactically in the opponents’ half of the field today.”

It was the Hurricanes’ first match-up with the Knights since 2008, when Miami fell in its opening NCAA Tournament match in Orlando by a final score of 3-1.

Miami continued its early trend of impressive defense, as the Knights tallied 12 shots on the day and forced sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lillard into five saves before the late conversion from Nicolette Radovcic. In four matches so far this season, the Hurricanes have netted eight goals and allowed only two.

While the Hurricanes’ enjoyed three goals off set pieces in their win over the visiting Eagles Friday night, they were unable to convert on three corner kicks in Sunday’s match-up with the Knights. Miami also fell victim to two early offsides calls.

“We are making progress in having a stronger mentality to be consistent and disciplined when it gets difficult,” Anagnost added. “With that said, I fully believe in this team and have a unshakeable faith we will get there.”
