UM Volleyball Begins Preseason
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyballteam officially reported to campus to begin the preseason on Tuesday. The teamreturns 10 letterwinners and four starters from last year, welcoming fivenewcomers to the fold.
“We arevery excited to get started with preseason and working towards our goals,” saidhead coach Nicole Lantagne Welch, who is entering her 12th season atthe helm. “The team worked hard throughout the offseason and is ready to go. Welook forward to getting out on the court and preparing for the season.”
TheHurricanes are looking to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourthstraight year, reaching the second round and posting a 26-5 overall record in2011.
With classes at UM starting onAug. 22, the team will have two weeks to focus exclusively on volleyball toprepare for the upcoming season. In addition to practice and strength andconditioning, the team has also scheduled time for activities to help developteam chemistry.
A highlight of the preseason willbe the Alumni Match at the Knight Complex on Aug. 18, as players from pastteams will return to Coral Gables to take part in a competitive scrimmage. Fansare invited to attend the event prior to heading to Canes Fest.
The Canes will officially open theseason at home in the Hurricane Invitational on Friday, August 24. Teamsscheduled to compete in the tournament that weekend include Wofford, Ole Miss,Rutgers and Samford.
