Registration is currently being accepted for the final session of the five-day camps. Students in grades 1-12 can register for Camp 6, which runs Aug. 6-10.
Hurricane basketball players and staff are on hand to coach the campers in drills and games, but also to be role models for the youth. “UM players are heroes to these kids,” said Mike Summey, UM’s Director of Basketball Operations and Camp Director. “To have current players act as coaches and spend time with the kids is a great opportunity for both current and young Canes.”
For $285 per session, children receive daily individual instruction, game play, all-you-can-eat lunch, a camp t-shirt and a camp basketball. In addition, there are tremendous guest lecturers, many awards given with each age group and a championship series played on the final day.
The camps are held in The Fieldhouse on the Coral Gables campus, adjacent to the BankUnited Center, the home of the Hurricanes. Sessions run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. Children of UM employees may receive a $25 discount, while discounts are also available for groups of six or more.
