Miami Track and Field Unveils 2012 Recruiting Class

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem and the University of Miami track and field program have announced the signing of six student-athletes for the 2012-13 season. The recruiting class consists of three women and three men: Dakota Dailey-Harris (Providence, R.I.), Jameka Glades (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Lateisha Philson (New York, N.Y.), JP Friday (Orlando, Fla.), Bert Irigoyen (Miami, Fla.) and TeQuille Jackson (Lancaster, Texas).

All six have signed National Letters of Intent.

“We are pleased with our 2012-13 recruiting class,” Deem said. “We feel that this class addresses our immediate needs and provides us with depth as a team. One of the things we were looking for is versatility and this group of athletes definitely meets that requirement.”

NOTES: Jumper … 2012 New Balance Outdoor, New England and Rhode Island Champion in the high jump … set a personal best in the event (5’10”) to help her team to the Rhode Island State Team Championship … has personal bests of 18’0.25″ in the long jump and 36’1.5″ in the triple jump.

NOTES: Hurdler and jumper … 2012 FHSAA 3A State Champion in the 300m hurdles and the runner-up in the 100m hurdles … swept the 100m and 300m hurdle events at the 3A Regional, District and BCAA County Championships … Florida Relays 100m Hurdle Champion … runner-up at the Golden South Classic in the 100m and 400m hurdles … has personal bests of 14.02 in the 100m hurdles, 41.79 in the 300m hurdles, 60.79 in the 400m hurdles and 38’0″ in the triple jump.

Benjamin Cardoza High School

NOTES: Hurdler and sprinter … finished third place at the 2012 New Balance Indoor … placed second at the Brooks PR Invitational in the 60m hurdles … has personal bests of 13.79 in the 100m hurdles, 60.04 in the 400m hurdles, 24.42 in the 200m and 56.89 in the 400m.

NOTES: Jumper … scored in three different field events at the 2012 FHSAA 4A State Meet to help lead his team to the runner-up trophy … brought home victories in the triple jump at the Golden South Classic and the 4A State Track Meet … has personal bests of 6’8″ in the high jump, 49’0″ in the triple jump and 22’11.75″ in the long jump. 

Bert Irigoyen
Miami, Fla.
Ransom Everglades High School

NOTES: Distance runner … four-time state champion, winning the 2A cross country and 1600m titles during his junior and senior campaigns … led his Ransom Everglades team to the 2011 FHSAA State 2A team championship … has personal bests of 4:18.39 in the 1600m, 9:31.10 in the 3200m and 15:29.87 in the 5000m.

TeQuille Jackson
Lancaster, Texas
Lancaster High School

NOTES: Hurdler … finished runner-up in the 110m hurdles and third place in the 300m hurdles at the 2012 UIL Texas State Track and Field Championships, leading his team to the 4A State Team Championship … ran a personal best (13.74) in the 110m hurdles at the 2012 Texas Relays … has a personal best of 37.75 in the 300m hurdles.

“We have had great hurdlers at the University of Miami and we look for Jameka, Lateisha and TeQuille to add to that strong tradition,” Deem continued. “Dakota and JP give us two quality jumpers that can contribute in multiple field events at the ACC and national level, with Bert being someone that will help us in the distance running events. All have a lot of room for growth and I look forward to watching their development.”
