Canes Welcome Auburn Transfer Jassany Williams
May 3, 2012
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Head Coach Katie Meier has announced that Jassany Williams has signed an Aid Agreement with the women’s basketball team and will transfer to the Canes from Auburn University.
“Jassany is such a great fit for our style of play, so we are excited that she will be playing at The U,” Meier said. “She runs the floor, defends and rebounds with great tenacity. We love her offensive mentality and the extra effort she puts in.”
Per NCAA regulations, Williams is required to sit out a season, but will be eligible to play for the Hurricanes during the 2013-14 season.
At Auburn, the Davie, Fla., native played in 62 games and started 18 in two seasons. During her 2011-12 campaign, Williams led AU with 57 blocks and was the Tigers’ leading rebounder on five occasions. The 6-2 forward scored 3.5 points and grabbed 3.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore, with a season-best 12 points coming against Belmont on Nov. 15.
Out of Nova High School, Williams was rated as the No. 7 post prospect in the nation and No. 59 overall by ESPN.com’s HoopGurlz.
The incoming junior has ties to the Miami program, as her cousin Kym Hope played for the Canes from 1995-99.
