CORAL GABLES Fla.- The No. 9 University of Miami women’s tennis team completed its regular season schedule today against the 70th- ranked Virginia Tech Hokies and it was Miami that came out on top with a 7-0 sweep.

Fans will see a new name in this Sunday’s lineup, as Hurricanes senior Gabriela Mateus, formerly known as Gabriela Mejia, exchanged vows on Saturday.

Mateus and Lina Lilekite would get things started in doubles play, making quick work of Va. Tech’s Betts/Blow combination, 8-1. Liat Zimmerman and Melissa Bolivar then followed with an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 position to lock up the doubles point for the Canes. With the point in hand, Anna Bartenstein and Brittany Dubins rounded out the doubles sweep by defeating Tea Ivanovic and Carol Kahoun 8-4.

Miami continued to overwhelm the Hokies in singles contention, taking all six matches in straight sets.

25th-ranked Mateus first topped Shannon Betts 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 position and 61st-ranked Lilekite finished off Courtney Rauscher 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 to make the Hurricane lead 3-0.

Zimmerman finally delivered the deciding point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 route of Virginia Tech’s Carol Kahoun.

Match clinched, Bartenstein and Bolivar completed victories at No. 1 and No. 5 singles respectively, both coming by the same score 6-1, 6-4. Brittany Dubins completed the 7-0 sweep when she bested Katie Blow 6-2, 6-4.

The Hurricanes will now begin preparing for the ACC Championships which are set to begin this Thursday, April 19th in Cary, NC.
