CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 61 University of Miami men’s tennis team will host No. 21 North Carolina on Fri., April 6. The match between the Hurricanes and Tar Heels will begin at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Against UNC, Miami (8-8, 1-6) looks to earn its second ACC win of the season after two tough matches last weekend in the Northeast as they fell to ACC opponents Maryland and Boston College.
The Hurricanes were led by a trio of sophomores against Maryland on Sunday as all three won their singles matches. Gabriel Flores defeated Maros Horny at the No. 1 position. Omar Aly and Diego Soto also won their matches at the No. 3 and 4 positions as they defeated Jesse Kiuru and Sergio Wyss, respectively.
North Carolina (9-5, 6-1) comes to Coral Gables on a two-match winning streak as they have defeated No. 66 Clemson and No. 70 Georgia Tech in their last two.
The Tar Heels are led by a trio of players that are currently ranked in the Top 105 singles players. Jose Hernandez is ranked No. 43, Brennan Boyajian is ranked No. 85 and Esben Hess-Olesen is ranked No.101 in the nation. They also have two doubles teams ranked in the Top 50 with Hernandez and Joey Burkhardt ranked No. 29 and Boyajian and Oystein Steiro are ranked No. 49.
Following Friday’s match, the Hurricanes will host No. 7 Duke on Sun., April 8 at 12 before travelling to Virginia Tech on Fri., April 13 at 1 p.m.
