Hill Victorious as Canes Finish Competition at Jim Click Shoot Out

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up competition in Arizona with a bevy of quality performances while teaming up with Clemson to represent the ACC in a showdown against the Big Ten and the PAC 12.
The 4×100-meter relay teams started off the track action with a pair of third-place finishes. The women’s team of Nicole Cummings, Jokira Jiles, Jasmyne King, and Tarika Williams raced around the track in 45.06 seconds, while the men’s team of Jason Johnson, Devon Hill, Bassim El-Sabawi and Christian Cook completed the event in 41.20 seconds.
The 1500 meters was the next contested event and was headlined for the Canes by sophomore Lindsi Arrington, who provided the squad with a seventh-place finish in a personal-best time of 4:34.29. Junior Greg Kaczka was the top finisher for the men with an eighth-place showing of 3:56.03.
In the short hurdle events, senior All-American Hill provided the highlight of the meet, running away with the victory in the 110 meter-hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.51 seconds. Hill’s time also qualifies him for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon in June. Freshman Cook placed fifth in 14.40 seconds. In the 100 meter-hurdles, sophomore Cummings ran a personal-best 14.09 seconds.
The men’s 4×400 relay of Darrell Butler, Hill, El-Sabawi and Cook capped off the meet with a second-place finish in a season-best time of 3:12.58. Other top-6 finishes included Jennifer Estime in the 800 meters (5th, 2:15.13), Darrell Butler in the 400-meter Hurdles (6th, 53.56), Shannon Wright, Kelsey Balkwill, Taneisha Cordell and Williams in the 4×400 (6th, 3:44.70), Ashley Holmes in the shot put (5th, 14.20m), Miranda Wilson and Holmes in the discus (4th, 45.34m; 5th, 45.08m), Cummings in the long jump (3rd, 5.96m), and Samantha Williams in the triple jump (5th, 12.41m).
In the final team standings, the PAC 12 took the victory with 433 points, the Big Ten came in second with 396.33 points and the ACC was third with 288.6 points.
