CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The eighth-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes return to Alex Rodriguez Park on Wednesday for a midweek match-up with the Bobcats of nearby St. Thomas University.

The Hurricanes, who have ripped off an 11-2 record over their last 13 games, will take on the Bobcats before traveling to South Carolina for a weekend series with the homestanding Clemson University Tigers from March 30 to April 1. Miami, currently tied for first place in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference, will then play Central Florida at home on April 4 before a three-game set with visiting North Carolina (April 6-8).

Midweek Warriors


The Hurricanes, facing many talented in-state competitors in their midweek matchups, have racked up an impressive 5-0 record in games taking place on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Those wins include an impressive 3-0 victory at Florida Gulf Coast, a home and away win against the Owls of Florida Atlantic, and a 3-2 win at No. 19 UCF in a hosile environment.


Rising Up The Ranks
After finishing the week 3-1, the Hurricanes once again moved up in all of collegiate baseball’s most prominent polls released on March 26. The Hurricanes moved up to No. 8 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll (from No. 9), moved to No. 7 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Poll (from No. 9), and jumped to No. 6 in NCBWA’s weekly poll (from No. 7).

Encinosa Returns to the Bullpen
Junior right-hander E.J. Encinosa, who served as a starter for the 2011 season, has returned to the bullpen for the 2012 campaign. The righty earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors for his work in the pen in 2010, where he posted an impressive ERA of 2.20 in 29 appearances on the hill. Encinosa recorded the first save of his season in the series fi nale against Rutgers, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The flamethrower recorded two saves in the team’s opening conference series against visiting Boston College, and also closed out a 3-2 game in impressive fashion at No. 19 UCF. He recorded saves in series’ against Duke and Maryland, andcurrently sits third in the conference with seven saves.
