CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After finding out it had leapt six spots in the national rankings to No. 6, the University of Miami women’s tennis team rounded out its seven game homestand on Wednesday with a 5-2 win over ACC foe and 21st-ranked Georgia Tech.

The Hurricanes moved to 12-1 on the season with the win and improved their conference record to a perfect 4-0.

After dropping the doubles point, the Canes would turn things around in singles play, winning the first four points in straight sets to clinch the match.

The seniors led the way for Miami, as No. 32 Gabriela Mejia took control at No. 2 singles, besting Elizabeth Kilborn, 6-3, 6-1 to even the match at 1-1. Anna Bartenstein, ranked No. 20, then defeated 22nd-ranked Jillian O’Neill, 6-1, 6-4.

No. 99 Lina Lileikite earned her 13th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-4 rout of the Yellow Jacket’s Christina Ngo and was immediately followed by a Melissa Bolivar 6-1, 6-4 match-clincher at the No. 4 position.

The Canes split a pair of three-set matches. Zimmerman battled Tech’s Anghelescu, 6-3, 3-6 in the first two sets before closing her out in tie-break 11-9. Dubins fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The duo of Zimmerman and Bolivar, currently ranked No. 28, made quick work of the ninth-ranked tandem of O’Neill and Alex Anghelescu, 8-4. However, Mejia and Lilekite would drop their first match of the season to Georgia Tech’s Blau/Kilborn and Bartenstein and Brittany Dubins also fell at No. 3 doubles, giving the Jackets the first point of the day.

Miami will take to the road this weekend, traveling to Winston Salem, N.C. this Saturday to take on Wake Forest and then NC State on Sunday.
