CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 58 University of Miami men’s tennis team opens a three-match homestand with the No. 57 University of Alabama on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables. The men’s match is part of a double header with the women’s team, which faces Yale at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“We are excited to play Alabama at home tomorrow,” said Coach Mario Rincon. “They have a solid line up in singles and doubles, and we will need to be at our best. We are looking forward to the challenge.”
Miami (6-5, 0-3 ACC) is eager to return to its home court where the Canes are 5-1 this season, defeating five Florida-based schools, including FAU, FAMU, USF, UCF and UNF. In its last homestand, Miami downed the Bulls, Knights and Ospreys each by a score of 5-2, but lost 6-1 to No. 23 Florida State.
At Clemson, Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto paired up to defeated the Tigers’ No. 2 doubles duo while Omar Aly won his match at the second position, Miami’s only singles win. Wilfredo earned Miami’s only victory against the Seminoles on March 4.
Alabama (6-7, 1-3 SEC) enters the match following a 6-1 victory over Arkansas on Sunday. The Crimson Tide is led by the nationally ranked duo of Carlos Taborga and Daniil Proskura, who are the No. 60 doubles pair in the country. Proskura has also been ranked in the Top 120 in the past month, but is currently out of the listing.
Following the March 17 match, Miami will then host No. 28 NC State at 2 p.m. on March 23, followed by No. 74 Wake Forest at Noon on March 25.
