CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 52 University of Miami men’s tennis team will host ACC rival No. 23 Florida State this Sun., March 4. The home match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The men’s match is part of a tennis doubleheader for the Hurricanes on Sunday as the women will face Clemson at 10:30 a.m. The men’s match could start a little late depending on when the women’s match finishes.

Miami (6-2, 0-1) comes in on a three-match winning streak after defeating the North Florida Ospreys last Sunday in a 5-2 match. The Canes started slow as they lost the doubles point before rebounding to take five of six singles matches.

“Our guys are looking forward to a great challenge against FSU at home,” said coach Mario Rincon. “We feel like we’ve had a good week of practice and are ready.”

The Hurricanes were led by sophomore Omar Aly and freshman Wilfredo Gonzalez against the Ospreys as each earned two wins on the day. Aly took down Norbert Nemcsek 6-1, 6-2 at the No.2 position, while Gonzalez beat Daniel Sotomarino 7-6 and 3-1 in a match that went unfinished. The pair also defeated Beauregard Treyz and Julien Belair 8-4 in doubles play.

Gabriel Flores, Diego Soto and Victor Mauz earned the Canes other three points on the day.

Miami has now defeated five straight in-state opponents and will look to make it six against the Seminoles.

“We continue to improve as a team,” continued Rincon. “It will be an exciting match for us at home.”

Florida State (10-2, 2-0) heads to Coral Gables after winning their last two matches including a 6-1 win over ACC foe No. 68 Georgia Tech.

The Seminoles are led by Jordan Kelly-Houston, Blake Davis and Andres Bucaro. Kelly-Houston and Davis, normally at the No. 1 and 2 positions, both come in with winning records in singles at 7-4 and 9-3, respectively. Bucaro, who normally plays at the No. 3 or 4 positions, hasn’t lost a singles match during the spring season.

Following Sunday’s match, the Hurricanes will travel to Clemson on Sun., March 11 and Georgia Tech on Tues., March 13 for their next two matches.
