Jacob and Williams to Compete at Last-Chance Meet

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — This week, select members of the University of Miami’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet. Freshman Innocent Jacob and junior-transfer Samantha Williams will look to post NCAA-qualifying marks in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
 
Jacob earned a bronze medal at the ACC Championships in Boston, Mass. this past weekend with a season-best jump of 7.36m (24′ 1.75″). Williams earned a point for her eighth-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.87m (add empirical), but will be focusing on her other event this weekend. She has a season-best mark of 12.41m (40′ 8.75″) in the triple jump from the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
Forty-seven schools are scheduled to have student-athletes competing at Virginia Tech this weekend: Akron, Appalachian State, Bridgewater (Va.), Capital, Central Michigan, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Christopher Newport, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Concord, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida, Furman, Georgia, Indiana State, Kent State, Kentucky, Louisville, Lynchburg, Mars Hill, Mary Washington, Methodist, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Minnesota, Norfolk State, North Carolina, NC State, North Florida, Ohio, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Roanoke, Salisbury, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, UNC Greensboro, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington & Lee and York.
 
The men’s long jump begins at Noon on Saturday, and the women’s triple jump will begin after the conclusion of the long jump competitions.
