Miami Women's Golf Team Prepares For Sir Pizza Cards Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s golf team return to the course next week as the Canes head to Weston Hills Country Club in Weston, Fla. The tournament will be three rounds with 36 holes being played on Mon., Feb. 27, and wrapping up 18 on Tue., Feb 28.
The Sir Pizza Cardinal Challenge, hosted by the University of Louisville, consists of nine Golfweek’s Top 100 ranked teams including Miami. The field comprises of host No. 50 Louisville, Cincinnati, No. 63 East Tennessee, Delaware, No. 60 Florida International, Kansas, No. 91 Memphis, No. 95 Missouri, No. 20 NC State, No. 58 South Florida, Southern Mississippi, No. 52 Texas State, UNC Wilmington and No. 76 Miami.
Coach Patti Rizzo’s starting line-up will include all five starters of the previous tournament. Jennifer Hirano, a senior from Pinole, Calif., and sophomore Carina Cuculiza from Managua, Nicaragua, played the tournament last season and will have the most experience heading into Weston Hills. Hirano finished T45 while Cuculiza ended the challenge T48. “Having played the course before does help out a lot” said coach Patti Rizzo. “Our three freshmen have never played there, but we’ll get to have a practice round. I’ve played the course before and know it very well.”
Freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica from Moraira-Teulada, Spain, Rika Park from Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan, and Shannon Pak, from New Orleans, La. round out the starting five.
The Weston Hills Country Club is a par 72 and 6,106 yard course. Weston, Fla. is located approximately 40 miles north of the Coral Gables campus.
