Miami Opens Up Spring Season at UCF Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team will compete in its first tournament of the spring season this coming Sunday, Feb. 12. The University of Central Florida will play host to the UCF Challenge from Feb. 12, through Tues., Feb. 14 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
Twelve of the 16 participating schools are ranked in GolfWeek’s Top 100 including Miami. The Canes, under second year Head Coach Patti Rizzo, are part of a 16-team field that includes host UCF, Auburn, Baylor, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas-San Antonio, Tulane, and USF.
Miami will open the spring with a lineup of senior Jennifer Hirano, sophomore Carina Cuculiza and freshmen Shannon Pak, Rika Park, and Leticia Ras-Anderica.
“We’re excited about our first event. The girls are ready to play, they’ve been practicing hard.” Coach Rizzo also goes on to say “people have noticed that John (Koskinon, assistant coach) and I are bringing the program back and they consider us a threat. They really think we’re going to turn this whole thing around and create a great team.”
The RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. is a 6,374-yard link-styled course designed by David Harman. The par 72 course includes 104 bunkers and four lakes on its 160 acre land, having hosted various NCAA and charity tournaments.
