Hurricanes Release 2012 Spring Schedule
Dec. 15, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s tennis head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews officially released the team’s 2012 Spring schedule on Thursday.
“I am excited for another competitive season,” Coach Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We always have positive surprises arise throughout the season, and we’re sure this year will be no different.”
Sandwiched in between major tournaments, 12 of the Hurricanes’ 17 dual meets will take place in sunny Coral Gables. To begin the season, the Neil Schiff Tennis Center will serve as one of fifteen host sites for ITA Kick-Off Weekend when Cal State Northridge, South Florida and UC Santa Barbara roll into town from Jan. 28 through Jan. 29.
If the Hurricanes win both matchups during ITA Kick-Off Weekend, they will qualify for a trip to Charlottesville, Va. and the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championships beginning Feb. 17. If not, the Hurricanes will have to wait until Feb. 26 for their next matchup: a meeting with conference rival Florida State at the Scott Spiecher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
After their trip to the state capital, the Hurricanes host eight meets in a row at home, beginning with a visit from the Ospreys of North Florida on March 3 and ending with a contest against Georgia Tech on March 21.
The home stretch includes three conference match-ups, including Clemson (March 4) and Boston College (March 9), and non-conference showdowns with Baylor (March 13), Kentucky (March 15), Yale (March 17) and Princeton (March 20).
With their lengthy homestand in the books, the Hurricanes will then alternate weekends home and away leading up to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The Hurricanes travel north for meets with Wake Forest (March 24) and North Carolina State (March 25) before returning home for matchups with Maryland (April 1) and Fresno State (April 4).
Miami will then fly back to Tobacco Road for matchups with Duke (April 6) and North Carolina (April 7), before closing out its regular season at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center against Virginia (April 13) and Virginia Tech (April 15).
The Hurricanes will once again make the trip to North Carolina for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships taking place in Cary, N.C beginning on April 19. When conference play comes to a close with the tournament finals on April 22, the team will begin preparations for a potential postseason trip to the NCAA Tournament.
“As usual, we will pride ourselves with taking this season one day at a time outworking and out-thinking each opponent,” Coach Yaroshuk-Tews said. “The competition is amazing and we will only improve as time goes on.”
Hosted by qualifying schools on their home campuses, the NCAA Regionals will take place May 11 through May 13. If the Hurricanes successfully qualify for the NCAA Team Championships, they will travel to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. for a scheduled opening Round-of-16 matchup on either May 17 or May 18. The tournament concludes with the NCAA Team Championship Finals on May 22.
Immediately following the conclusion of the NCAA Team Championships, the NCAA Singles/Doubles Championships begin at the Dan Magill Tennix Complex on May 23, with the tournament finals scheduled for May 29.
