Nov. 18, 2011
Coral Gables, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to improve this Saturday at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The women ran a 6K, while the men competed in the 8K race.
“I am pleased with the overall efforts from both groups,” said assistant coach Damon Griffiths. “We are in a good position heading into the conference championships, but we’ll still need to get stronger both mentally and physically.”
The UM men’s team finished 11th overall in a field filled with nationally ranked opponents. Junior Greg Kaczka led the pack with a time of 25:31, finishing 30th overall out of 139. Kaczka was followed by sophomores Connor Adams and Luke Fontaine who finished with times of 26:10 (62nd overall) and 26:18 (65th overall), respectively. Rounding out the group for the Canes were Philip Wood (73rd – 26:28), Sean Pezzulo (93rd – 27:10), Jacee Jarnigan (99th – 27:33) and Matthew Wilson (103rd – 27:49).
“Greg raced to a new personal record and looked very strong in the early parts of the race,” said Griffiths.
On the women’s side, the Hurricanes were once again led by Lindsi Arrington (14th – 22:59) and Brooke Dovell (24th – 23:36), and finished ninth overall in a strong field. Also running for the Canes were Casey Crist (49th – 24:52), Allison Ludwick (58th – 25:13), Jennifer Estime (69th – 26:18) and Cristina Brea (70th – 26:23).
“Lindsi is continuing to build confidence in each race,” added Griffiths. “I know it was a benefit to get a 6K race in before conference for the women.”
The University of Miami will look to continue improving in its next event at the ACC Championships on October 29 in Clemson, S.C. The event will be hosted by Clemson University.
