Canes Ready for Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown
Oct. 23, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla.- The University of Miami women’s golf team will close out their fall season this week as they travel to Boulder City, Nev. to compete in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
The Canes are competing with 15 other teams, including Oklahoma, UC Davis, San Diego State, Pepperdine, East Carolina, Louisville, Missouri and host UNLV.
The tournament begins on Monday with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. and continues with the second round on Tuesday, concluding with the third round on Wednesday.
“We’re looking forward to our final fall event,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “The girls have practiced hard the last few weeks and I am hoping for a great finish to top off a respectable fall semester. A little Vegas luck might help as well.”
The Canes are coming off a seventh place finish in the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational but feel like they can play better.
The five Canes making the trip this weekend are seniors Jennifer Hirano and Patricia Arana, and freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica, Rika Park, and Shannon Pak.
The freshmen continue to lead the Canes.
Ras-Anderica had success in the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational, finishing in third place overall. She shot a two-over par 74 in the final round. Park was able to earn a Top 10 finish as well.
