Diego Soto Wins Three on Day 3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore Diego Soto of the University of Miami men’s tennis team had an unblemished record today at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Georgia. The Hurricanes finished the day with six victories.

Soto won all of his matches in the singles consolation draw with victories over Didrik Berg of Stetson, Mario Samson of UCF and Jose Fantova from Jacksonville. Consolation play has ended after three rounds.

The tournament ended early for sophomore Gabriel Flores as he lost in the round of 32 in the main draw of singles play. He was defeated in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, by Campbell Johnson of Georgia.

Victor Mauz, Santiago Nieto, and Omar Aly also earned victories in the first round of singles consolation play before losing in the round of 16.

Sophomore Pedro Ast’s tournament ended after losing to UNF’s Julien Belair in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, of singles consolation play.

Play will continue without the Hurricanes tomorrow at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning at 10 a.m.
