Canes Travel to Blacksburg to take on the Hokies

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will face Virginia Tech on Friday in the Canes’ lone match of the week. First-touch is set for 7 p.m. at the Hokies’ Thompson Field.
Miami (7-4-1, 1-3-1 ACC) is coming off a tough 4-1 loss to No. 10 North Carolina last Sunday. Freshman Shannon Caspar scored the lone goal of the match, her third of the season.
After being shut out of the scoring line against North Carolina, Kate Howarth and Tara Schwitter will look to rebound with strong performances. The forwards are the team’s leading scorers with 17 and 11 points respectively.
The Hokies enter the match with a record of 8-4-1 on the season, including 0-3-1 in conference play. They are coming off a hard-fought defeat to the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils in Durham, N.C.
Virginia Tech will be led by Junior Kelly Conheeney, who has nine goals and two assists on the season. She also is first on the team with four game-winning goals.

Miami will return home next Thursday, Oct. 13 to host the Boston College Eagles.
