Miami Defenders Recognized Following Big Performances

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami defenders Marcus Robinson and Sean Spence have garnered national honors for their performances in Miami’s 45-14 win over Bethune-Cookman Saturday at Sun Life Stadium.

College Football Performance Awards has recognized both Canes as national honorable mention performers in their respective position groups. Spence, who had team-best eight tackles, was recognized among his peers at the linebacker position, while Robinson earned praise after recording five tackles and a career-high three sacks from his defensive end position.

Spence, who now has a team-best 28 total tackles this year despite missing the opener, also recorded a sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss against the Wildcats. Spence ranks ninth in the ACC with a 9.3 tackles per game average.

Robinson ranks second among all UM defensive linemen with 16 total tackles, while adding 4.5 tackles for a loss, one pass break-up and one forced fumble.

After wrapping up its three-game homestand, the Hurricanes will hit the road for the next two weeks with trips to Virginia Tech and North Carolina. UM will face the Hokies in Blacksburg on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC/ESPN.
