CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team saw North Carolina score two goals in each half as the Tar Heels won at Cobb Stadium for the first time since 2005 by a 4-1 score Sunday afternoon.

UNC scored twice in a five-minute span in the opening period. First, in the 23rd minute from Megan Brigman and then, in the 28th minute on an Amber Brooks’ penalty kick.

Miami’s (7-4-1, 1-3-1 ACC) lone goal of the match was freshman Shannon Caspar’s third of the season. With her team trailing 4-0, the Jupiter, Fla. native took a feed from fellow freshman Ashley Flinn and fired a shot from 15 yards out into the short corner on the right side.

North Carolina’s second half goals came from Kealia Ohai and Courtney Jones in the 46th and 62nd minutes respectively.

The Canes’ Brooke Van Aman and Tara Schwitter led the team with two shots apiece, while goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo was called on to make four saves in the match.

Assists were credited to Jones, Crystal Dunn, Anna Sieloff and Ranee Premji for the Tar Heels.

Miami will be back in action on Oct. 7 when it faces Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. and will next play at home on Oct. 13 when it welcomes No. 7 Boston College at Cobb Stadium.
