Canes Heading to Orlando for UCF Quad Tournament
CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play in its second fall tournament this weekend when the Hurricanes compete in the UCF Quad Tournament at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando from Sept. 23-25.
Miami opened its 2011-12 season last weekend in North Carolina, where seniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia each won their respective singles tournament. This weekend, Bartenstein and Mejia will be joined by sophomores Melissa Bolivar and Brittany Dubins.
“It is important that we play the way we practiced this week,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “All four girls improved this week and I want to see that preparation carried over into our results. These tournaments are important to everyone’s growth heading into our spring season.”
Bartenstein and Mejia both went 4-0 last weekend at the Duke Fab-4 Invite played at the Cary Tennis Complex. Mejia has now won seven straight matches – five coming against ranked opponents – dating back to the start of last season’s NCAA Tournament.
In addition to the four Canes competing, the UCF Quad will include players from UCF, USF and Stetson. Play will get underway Friday morning and run through Sunday, when singles and doubles finals will be played.
