Roger Tomas Resigns from Canes Baseball Staff
Sept. 20, 2011
Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami volunteer baseball assistant Roger Tomas has resigned from his position with the Hurricanes baseball staff to pursue other career opportunities. A search for a new volunteer assistant will begin immediately, according to head coach Jim Morris.
“I want to thank Coach Morris, J.D., Gino, Ron, Jimmy, Marlen, Mary Lou, Lois and G.M. [Robert McDaniel] for making this coaching experience an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Tomas. “Due to personal family reasons, I have stepped down from my duties as a volunteer assistant coach. I wish nothing but the best to Coach Morris, his staff and all players.”
Tomas, who played at UMiami from 2004-07 before playing minor league ball for two years, came back to UM as a volunteer assistant prior to the 2010 campaign. He spent two years with the Hurricanes under head coach Jim Morris, helping the Canes to consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and a Super Regional appearance (2010).
“Roger was a great player and coach for me and all of us will miss him on the field,” said Morris.
