Rookie Leads Canes In Day Two of Golf Season
Sept. 12, 2011
HARAHAN, S.C. – Freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica shot a one-over par 73 to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on the second day of play in the stacked field at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall.
The Canes shot 303 on the day, one stroke off their score from the first round, and are currently in 15th place.
“We were disappointed today but will fight back tomorrow,” UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo said. “The fast greens are giving the girls trouble and we need to get that corrected.”
North Carolina (567) continues to lead the field after shooting 6-under par 282. Florida (568), LSU (571), NC State (577), Vanderbilt (581), Tennessee (581), Alabama (581) and Georgia (581) are in contention behind the Tar Heels.
Freshman Rika Park shot a respectable 75 and a one-under on the front nine. Park recorded par on 11 of the 18 holes and had birdies on holes two and three.
Senior Jennifer Hirano shot a five-over par 77 after registering a very impressive one-over par 71 on day one. She finished with an even-par 36 on the front nine including two birdies.
Senior Patricia Arana delivered a six-over par 78 and freshman Shannon Pakshot a nine-over par 81. Arana scored par on 13 of the 18 holes while Pak registered two birdies on the day.
