Sept. 3, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University Miami women’s soccer team will be back in action after a week off when it will host Duquesne at Cobb Stadium. First kick is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last weekend the Canes (3-1) traveled out west for two road contests, defeating BYU and Utah Valley by 1-0 and 4-1 scores respectively.
Against BYU, freshman Hannah Moehling scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute. Miami’s victory snapped the Cougars 10-game unbeaten streak at home.
With the shutout season, senior Vikki Alonzo’s school-record was extended to 25.
Two days later, UM played the Utah Valley Wolverines, in Orem, Utah. The Canes decisive win over the Wolverines was highlighted by Shannon Casper, as the freshman scored her first two collegiate goals.
Miami’s offense is led by junior forward Kate Howarth. The Grand Blanc, Mich. native already has three goals this season, while fellow junior Fatima Nasser and Caspar are right behind with two goals apiece on the year.
Duquesne (1-4) is coming off four consecutive losses and fell to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, losing 1-0 in double overtime.
The Dukes will be looking for senior defender Laura Tulmcak and junior defender Michelle Mooren to provide veteran leadership for their young squad.
The Hurricanes will be back in action on Tuesday, September 6th, when they head to Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla.
The University of Miami is also excited to offer a new season ticket package that will include two (2) adult and (3) youth tickets to all home volleyball and soccer events in the 2011 season.
