Former Cane Advances at National Diving Championships

LOS ANGELES – Former University of Miami female diver and two-time NCAA champion Brittany Viola advanced to the semifinals of the AT&T National Diving Championships in the women’s 10-meter platform event at the Spieker Aquatics Center on the campus of UCLA.

Viola, fresh off a 10th-place finish at last month’s World Championships, qualified for her spot in the finals with a total of 286.60 points. She picked up her two highest scores on her third and fifth dives respectively.

She tallied a score of 73.60 on her final dive – a Back 2 ½ Somersault 1 ½ Twist Pike. Her third dive which scored 68.80 points, was an Armstand Back 2 Somersault 1 ½ Twist Free.

Viola will compete in the finals of the 10-meter platform on Friday.

The AT&T National Diving Championships continue through Sunday, August 14. Thursday’s competition features men’s 3-meter quarterfinals and semifinals, women’s 1-meter semifinals and finals, and women’s synchronized 10-meter finals.
