CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The NCAA announced its field for its East Preliminary Round held on the campus of Indiana University May 26-28 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.

Leading the way for the Canes are their historically strong hurdlers. Five-time All-America selection Ti’erra Brown is one of three women that will compete in the 400m hurdles, as she will be joined by fellow senior Takecia Jameson and freshman Thandi Stewart. Brown and Jameson also earned a spot in the 110m hurdle field.

Brown and Jameson each earned All-America honors last season in the 400m hurdles when Brown was the national runner-up and Jameson placed seventh. Brown was also the national runner-up in the 100m hurdles in 2010.

Jumpers Megan Novinger and Nicole Cummings will compete in the high and long jumps respectively. Novinger reached a season-best mark of 1.75m (5-08.75) at the Hurricane Invitational, while Cummings reached her best mark at the ACC Championships (6.03m, 19-09.50).

The ACC champion in the men’s 110m hurdles will be racing as well. Junior Devon Hill enhanced his seed in next weekend’s preliminary round when he raced to a season-best time of 13.65 seconds at the UNF last chance meet.

Under the second-year format being used for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the top 48 declared athletes in each of the two regions (East, West) were accepted into the field to compete in the Preliminary Rounds. The top 12 finishers in each event at each of the two regional sites will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
