Spring Football Depth Chart: April 5
April 5, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – With the first scrimmage in the books, the Miami football program announced a new depth chart heading into the fourth week of practices.
The Canes will be on the field Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. and the depth chart below is how they will line up:
Offensive Notes:
> There was little movement on the offensive side of the ball, but clearly there are some heated battles going on all across the board. Coach Golden has shifted the order of the trio of running backs after Saturday’s scrimmage. Mike James appears on the top line with Lamar Miller at No. 2 and Storm Johnson at No. 3.
> There continues to be a battle between Harland Gunn and Brandon Linder at left guard as the or remains on this iteration of the depth chart.
> A new battle for a starting position has begun at center. Tyler Horn remains in the starting role, however, an or has now been inserted, indicating tough competition from redshirt-freshman Shane McDermott.
> Brandon Washington continues to be the top right guard, but Jared Wheeler and Jermaine Barton are now competing for the backup job.
> The tight ends are listed on this depth chart in alphabetical order. There is no clear No. 1 with Blake Ayles, John Calhoun, Chase Ford, Clive Walford and Cory White all battling for the starting spot.
Look Back: March 31 Depth Chart
Defensive Notes:
> There have been several shifts in the defensive line, most notably junior Adewale Ojomo has regained the starting spot at end, besting junior Olivier Vernon who previously held the spot. Luther Robinson and true freshman Olsen Pierre battle for the starting job at tackle. With the move of Pierre from end to the interior, Marcus Robinson is now the backup to Andrew Smith at defensive end.
> Jordan Futch has moved from the No. 2 spot at outside linebacker to battle Jimmy Gaines at middle for a starting job. The two are listed with an or on the depth chart. Kelvin Cain now sits at No. 2 behind Sean Spence at outside linebacker.
> In the defensive backfield, Lee Chambers now sits at No. 2 at cornerback behind Brandon McGee, supplanting true freshman Thomas Finnie–who is now third. At the other corner position, Keion Payne and Eduardo Clements are competing for No. 2 behind JoJo Nicolas.
> Vaughn Telemaque and Ray Ray Armstrong continue to hold down the starting spots at safety. Transfer Andrew Swasey has moved to the No. 2 spot at free safety, however, he and Kacy Rodgers continue to challenge each other, as Coach Golden has inserted an or at that position.
