Eichkorn Moves Up to No. 6 in Latest National Singles Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn has moved up four spots to No. 6 in the latest national singles rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Eichkorn, who also named ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time on Tuesday, is 24-6 overall, 13-2 in dual match play and 4-0 against ACC opponents in Miami’s top singles position. The Tengen, Germany native has nine wins against ranked opponents this year, including three over Top 15 opponents over the last two weeks.
As a team, Miami dropped to No. 6 in the latest Campbell/ITA rankings, coming in behind Florida, Stanford, North Carolina, Duke and Michigan.
In doubles, Eichkorn and teammate Anna Bartenstein moved up from No. 27 to No. 13 this week. The pair is 20-4 overall, 13-2 in dual match play at 3-1 against ACC opponents.
Bartenstein also made a big leap in singles this week, moving up from No. 75 to No. 39 as she is currently riding a seven-match winning streak. The Graz, Austria native is 10-3 in dual match play and 4-0 in ACC play at No. 2 for Miami this spring.
Kayla Rizzolo, who is 6-4 overall and 1-1 in dual match play, came in at No. 85 this week.
USC’s Maria Sanchez is the top-ranked singles player in the nation this week while the top doubles team is Clemson’s Keri Wong and Josipa Bek, who lost to Eichkorn and Bartenstein, 8-4, just over a week ago.
The Hurricanes (11-4) are coming off a stretch in their schedule in which they played six matches in a span of 13 days, with five of the matches coming against Top 25 opponents. The `Canes picked up wins over No. 4 Michigan, No. 21 Georgia Tech, No. 11 Clemson and TCU, while their only losses were against No. 6 North Carolina and No. 9 Baylor.
Miami has this week off and will return to the courts when the team travels to Virginia to face the University of Virginia on March 26 and Virginia Tech on March 27.
