March 9, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — A huge thank you to local writer Omar Kelly, who recapped a Wednesday morning conference call with ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper. Kiper spoke about the pro potential of just about every Hurricane that worked at the NFL Combine, as well as Ryan Hill.
The timing is ideal for UM fans, as the Canes will hold their annual Pro Day on Thursday morning.
Kelly tweeted Kiper’s thoughts and we have quoted the majority below. Make sure you check out Kelly’s timeline as well:
> Kiper keeps pointing out that Leonard Hankerson is the third best receiver in this draft in his view, but “there’s no consensus right now.”
> “I think Leonard Hankerson really helped himself running the way he did.He has a chance to be the 3rd WR taken, maybe in the late 1st,” Kiper
> Kiper said UM ILBer Colin McCarthy is presently in the 3rd or 4th RD range for the 2011 draft.
> “Orlando Franklin is more of a day 3 guy as an offensive tackle-guard option,” Kiper said of the UM lineman.
> “I liked Graig Cooper before he got hurt. It’s going to push him down but he was an interesting guy,” Kiper said of the UM RB.
> Kiper said UM DE Allen Bailey “gives you some scheme versatility but might be a 2nd or third round pick right now.”
> Kiper said Brandon Harris helped himself at the combine. “He tested better than I thought he played.”
> Kiper said envisions UM CB Ryan Hill as an undrafted free agent. “I’d be shocked if he was drafted,” Kiper said.
> RT @1TrueStory_: What did Kiper say about DeMarcus Van Dyke» He helped himself at the combine, but his game film doesn’t match his skills
