Morris Recovering at UMH

March 1, 2011

Tampa, Fla. – University of Miami baseball head coach Jim Morris is still recovering from surgery to remove his gall bladder at University of Miami Hospital (UMH) in Coral Gables, Fla. He will not coach in No. 24 Miami’s game against USF tonight at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.

Morris, now in his 18th year at the helm in Coral Gables, was recovering from his Feb. 25 surgery before an infection required him to check back into the hospital. Doctors at UMH have stopped the spread of the infection and Morris is recovering at UMH.

“I’m progressing and getting better day by day,” said Morris on Tuesday morning. “I’m anxious to get released from the hospital and rejoin the team as soon as possible.”

UMH has not given a release date for Morris. Likewise, there is no date for Morris to resume his coaching duties at practices and/or games. Originally, he was expected to rejoin the team for the Hurricanes’ trip to No. 1 Florida for a three-game series beginning Friday, March 4.
