No. 8 Miami Set to Host UCF at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center
Feb. 26, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The eighth-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team will play host to UCF Sunday morning at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission to the match between the Hurricanes (6-2) and Knights (4-3) is free to the public and UM students.
The Hurricanes moved up one spot in the Campbell/ITA women’s rankings this week. UM has now moved up four spots in the polls since the season opened in mid-January.
UM will be led by All-America senior Bianca Eichkorn, who improved to 7-1 in the Hurricanes’ No. 1 singles position last weekend at the ITA Indoor Championship. Eichkorn, who is ranked 10th-nationally in singles play by the ITA, will likely face UCF’s Jenny Frisell, who is 2-3 this year at No. 1 for the Knights.
In doubles, Eichkorn will team with Anna Bartenstein in the No. 1 doubles spot. They will likely face the tandem of Courtney Griffith and Genevieve Lorbergs, who have won four of five matches this spring in UCF’s top doubles position.
The last time these two teams met in a dual match, the `Canes defeated the Knights, 6-1, in Coral Gables on Feb. 8, 2009. Eichkorn – ranked 20th at the time – was the only current UM player to play in the match. She earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Following Sunday’s match, the `Canes will begin preparing for a home match against No. 5 Michigan on Wednesday, March 2.
