Miami Track Great Ronald Thorne has Passed Away

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former Hurricane track great Ronald Thorne passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Wednesday.

Thorne earned All-America recognition after his performance in the indoor 800m run at the 1995 NCAA National Championships. For his accomplishments, Thorne was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

“The entire Miami family is mourning the loss of a great `Cane,” said Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. “Thorne was an instrumental contributor to a proud track tradition at Miami and will always be a legend at THE U.”

Services will be this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at McWhite’s Funeral Home. All arrangements should be sent there at 3501 W. Broward Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312.
