Soccer Staff Complete with Additions of Kagan, Norman

Feb. 1, 2011

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head women’s soccer coach Tom Anagnost has announced the additions of Matt Kagan and Nate Norman to the program as assistant coaches.

“Both Nate and Matt are great people who have the character traits that embodies what Miami soccer will be all about,” said Anagnost. “They are committed to make the program better every day.”

Kagan joins the Hurricanes after serving as the assistant coach for the University of Evansville’s women’s program the last three seasons. Known for his recruiting, Kagan brought Canadian National Team member Vanessa Legault-Cordisco to the Purple Aces in 2010. She was the first national team player to sign and play with the program.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to Tom for this opportunity to work at The U,” said Kagan. “The sky is the limit for the success of the soccer program here at Miami and I am excited to work with Nate and Tom to make this program into a national contender.”

In 2008, Kagan and the Evansville coaches were named the Missouri Valley Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Aces to a 13-5-2 record – including a perfect 9-0 home slate – and conference regular season and tournament titles.

“Matt genuinely cares about the student-athletes and is a very good recruiter,” said Anagnost. “He’s already been a successful collegiate head coach and his experiences will help our women daily, both on and off the field.  He’s an incredibly dedicated and hard working coach who will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience at the U.”

Norman comes to Miami after serving as an assistant coach with Western Michigan during the 2010 season where he helped guide the Broncos to a 10-7-5 finish and an appearance in the Mid-American Conference Championship game. Norman also aided in the development of three All-MAC players, including junior Stephanie Skowneski, who was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year with nine goals and four assists on the season.

“I am very excited to be a part of this great staff here at the University of Miami,” said Norman. “Tom is a tremendous coach who has been extremely successful developing student-athletes on and off the field. The chance to coach with Tom and Matt at a school like Miami is a tremendous opportunity that I could not pass up.”
Prior to joining the Broncos, Norman served as a full-time assistant coach at Covenant College where he assisted in all facets of the program. During his only season at Covenant, the Scots finished with a 13-6-2 record and placed third in the NCCAA tournament.

“I feel that Nate is one of the best young up-and-coming college coaches in the country,” concluded Anagnost. “He’s played at the highest level at Notre Dame, has the utmost integrity and is an excellent communicator.  He made a great impact at Western Michigan in a very short amount of time and I am very excited to have him serve our student-athletes.”
