FLUSHING, N.Y. – University of Miami All-America senior Bianca Eichkorn won her opening round match of singles consolation play with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victory over Columbia’s Nicole Bartnik Friday afternoon at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Eichkorn and Bartnik were back and forth through the first two sets, as Eichkorn took the first set before Bartnik grabbed the second. Once tied, Eichkorn took full control of the action, advancing to the next round and match-up with SMU’s Marta Lesniak.
Eichkorn, the third-winningest student-athlete in singles play in program history, has tallied 107 wins in her storied career. Last season, the native of Tengen, Germany went 31-5 overall and 23-0 in dual match in singles to earn All-America honors. This fall, she is 7-3 with a first flight singles title at the Miami Fall Invitational to her credit.
