Cuculiza & Ronderos Notch Eighth Place Finishes

Kiawah Island S.C.— The University of Miami golf team wrapped up play at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 12 place finish.  Senior Maria Ronderos shot a 4-over 75, as did freshman Carina Cuculiza, who tied for eighth in the event.

The twelfth-place finish ties the best finish this fall for the Hurricanes, who now take a break until February when the spring season begins.

The eighth place finish was the second top-ten finish in a row for Ronderos, who leads the Hurricanes with a 73.91 stroke average after the fall season.

For Cuculiza, the Palmetto Invitational served as a coming out party as the Managua, Nicaragua native recorded her first career top-ten finish.

Senior Christina Hirano shot an 87, and junior Melanie Kleiner shot an 81 for the Hurricanes.

The golf team’s next action is Feb. 20-22 when it travels back to Kiawah Island for the Kiawah Classic to start the spring season.
